DURRES, Nov. 16 – Suzana Xheka lost four children last week when they died in their beds, apparently poisoned by fumes caused by a small fire. She had gone to work at a nightclub to support them.
The children, aged between 6 and 13, were found by their mother when she came back from work in the village of Sukth.
Police said that it was likely an unattended candle, being used during a power cut that set fire to a table and a television set. According to a preliminary investigation the sleeping children were killed by fumes.
Albania suffers frequent power cuts.
A legal studio in capital Tirana has undertaken representing Xheka in a lawsuit against Czech CEZ power Distribution Company asking for compensation for their death.
The Prizem legal studio will likely open the first trial of the kind in the country.
Defending lawyer Arben Kashahu said his studio is preparing all the required documentation, claiming it was the power cut the cause of their death.
They will claim a financial compensation for their mother.
