TIRANA, Oct. 31 – Albana Vokshi, the head of the Democratic League of Women of Albania told the Congress of Women’s Forum of the center-right European People’s Party, that the left-wing government’s policies had “plunged Albania into poverty.”

Vokshi also said these actions were the cause of the Albanians’ most recent exodus, with most of them seeking asylum in Germany because they don’t have any income and the state has excluded them from the scheme of economic assistance.

Tens of thousands of Albanians have gone to Germany in the last two years, asking for asylum.

Germany, dealing with hundreds of thousands of Syrian and Iraqi refugees, has excluded Albania from the list of countries eligible for asylum. Tirana is now in its safe list which means Albanians cannot ask for political asylum in Germany. All will be deported, German officials said.

The Congress of the Women’s Forum of the European People’s Party devoted a special session to the migration crisis, focused on asylum seekers from the Balkans.

Balkan countries are required to strengthen the rule of law and to take measures for economic growth, in order to prevent the large flows of asylum seekers.
