National Security Council summoned over failure to arrest ‘Balkan Escobar’

TIRANA, Jan. 25 – Albanian President Bujar Nishani has summoned the National Security Council over the failure of authorities to arrest a man accused of being a notorious drug trafficker, who also served as a former local government official of Saranda, Klement Balili. Albanian Serious Crimes Prosecution Office has launched criminal investigation against Balili based on an arrest warrant by Greek authorities in May 2016, in the aftermath of an anti-drugs operations conducted with the assistance of U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
