TIRANA, Oct 7 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilir Meta has received a message of congratulations for the new post from NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
“Albania has been contributing to security and stability in the Balkans and NATO’s operations since long before it s full accession to the Alliance, clearly showing an important choice of its people to join the community of democratic nations of the North Atlantic area in their quest to security,” said the letter.
“I trust that this commitment will only grow stronger, especially as the Alliance remains steadfast in its commitment to Afghanistan, while at the same time, also undergoing a very important transformation. That work includes the development of a new Strategic Concept by the time of the next NATO Summit in autumn 2010. This process will be an inclusive policy-making process, actively involving all Allies, and I trust that Albania will take part in our respective deliberations,” Rasmussen wrote.
Albania became a NATO member in April this year.
