TIRANA, Sept. 10 – NATO military ships docked in the southwestern port of Vlora last Friday for a three-day visit.

They were part of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group, SNMCMG2, trying to enhance interoperability of Albanian naval vessels under joint development of naval operations.

Their personnel also visited the Albanian Flotilla Command in Pashaliman base.

SNMCMG2 normally comprises eight mine hunters or minesweepers and a support ship from Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Britain and the United States.

It operates as an integral unit whether participating in exercises or conducting real world operational missions, primarily in the Mediterranean area but, as required, available anywhere NATO requires it to deploy.
