TIRANA, April 6 – Lorenc Gjoni has taken over as the new executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania, one of the most active business associations operating in the country, replacing Floreta Luli-Faber who led the Chamber for more than a decade since its establishment in 2000.
An Albanian-American citizen, Gjoni has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and has an MBA in Finance from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He has spent over a decade working for PPG Industries, a Fortune 500 Company based in Pittsburgh. In addition, Gjoni has also been active within the Albanian-American Diaspora, fostering investment relationships between Albania and the USA, as well as supporting the sister-city relationship that Cleveland, Ohio has with the city of Fier, the AmCham says on its Facebook profile.
Speaking at a ceremony, U.S. ambassador to Albania Donald Lu stressed the need to develop a stable business environment which would enable foreign investors to turn their eyes towards Albania.
“Cooperation with business in this respect takes special importance and strengthens the efforts to combat corruption, which should be a priority not only for the government, but also for the Albanian society,” he said.
Highlighting moments from the early days of leading the Chamber, Luli-Faber, who has taken over as the new Albanian Ambassador to the U.S. stressed the importance of the Chamber’s work to increase foreign investment in Albania. She assured she will continue promoting foreign investments in her new role as Ambassador of Albania to the United States and will help the AmCham bring new investors from the United States.
Established since 2000, the AmCham is the biggest business association representing foreign investors in Albania, with more than 200 members, and has been very active defending business community interests in its dialogue with government in legal initiatives and efforts to improve the business climate.
