TIRANA, Feb 3 – The parliament elected Monday evening the seven new members of the Central Election Commission in charge of running the June 28 general elections.
Arben Ristani was elected as the new CEC head. Ristani has been a former member of the CEC until months ago when he was elected to manage the School of Magistrates in the country.
The governing Democratic Party also offered as other members Vera Shtjefni and Hysen Osmanaj.
The main opposition Socialist Party proposed for new members Deshira Subashi and Artan Laze.
The Republican Party, part of the governing coalition, chose Klement Zguri for the CEC and Social Democrats, part of the opposition coalition, had Pandeli Varfi as their member.
The new CEC will be made up of seven members, from nine before. That has sparked unrest from the other small political parties asking to have their own representation in the commission.
The socialist Movement for Integration of former Prime Minister Ilir Meta left the parliament’s hall to protest against the lack of their member at the new commission.
