TIRANA, Feb. 14 – Enkelejda Shehi is due to be elected the new head of Albania’s Financial Supervisory Authority, an independent public institution regulating the non-banking financial system focusing on insurance, private pensions markets. Shehi, a former deputy head of the FSA, replaces Elisabeti Gjoni who a few months ago resigned to become deputy governor of the Bank of Albania. Speaking after receiving the consensus of both majority and opposition MPs at the parliamentary economy committee, Shehi elaborated on the need to amend the insurance law because of the high number of uninsured cars.
The candidacy of Mati Pepa for the Authority’s deputy head received only the votes of the ruling majority.
