Nishani holds first visit abroad into Kosovo

TIRANA, Sep. 03 – President Bujar Nishani held his first visit abroad in the post in neighboring Kosovo where he stayed for three days.
Nishani held meetings with Prishtina’s political leaders, including President Atifete Jahjaga, Speaker of Parliament Jakup Krasniqi and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.Nishani also met leaders of Kosovo’s main political parties, including Isa Mustafa of the opposition Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, and Albin Kurti, head of the nationalist Vetvendosje (Self-Determination) Movement.
Nishani was accompanied by Education Minister Myqerem Tafaj, Interior Minister Flamur Noka and Deputy Foreign Minister Edit Harxhi.
Nishani also paid homage to Kosovo’s late President and independence leader, Ibrahim Rugova, and to the late guerrilla leader, Adem Jashari.
The Albanian president also visited several religious sites, including the medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery at Decani, in the west of the country.
Nishani said that Kosovo’s independence is irreversible and that it was an important factor of regional peace and stability. He said that the removal of Kosovo’s supervised independence was a historical moment that opened a new road to Kosovo, to its citizens, in the consolidation of state and institutions, as well as in the development of democracy and economic prosperity.
Speaking about the dialogue with Serbia, the President that Albania supported the agenda of Kosovo institutions, while adding that dialogue was the most efficient and successful means to solve open issues between countries.
“Free, independent, democratic and sovereign Kosovo is today not only an irreversible reality, but also an indispensable factor for peace, stability and economic development all over the Balkans region. Albania has always supported and continues to support all the commitments of Kosovo institutions in their contacts, negotiations and communications. The dialogue is today the most efficient, the most successful and the most European means to handle all problems that may arise between two different countries or states,”said Nishani.
Kosovo President Jahjaga on her side said they had agreed in the talks that “the border between our two countries must be a European one which unites people, enabling thus a free communication and an exploitation of our resources, through concrete programs. This year the construction work for the nation’s highway ‘Ibrahim Rugova’ is due to end in all Prishtina-Durr쳠segment. This will help to increase the commercial exchanges and the goods flow. The emerging of the Republic of Kosovo in Albania’s ports is of the utmost importance for the distribution of our products, but also for the economic connection with all the countries of the world.”
the President ended his three-day trip to Kosovo with a visit at the Albanian League of Prizren and at the Sinan Pasha’s Mosque in the city.
Nishani expressed his respect and appreciation toward Kosova peoples’ contributions to peace, stability, and cooperation.
Nishani considered that this visit in the first place has to do with “the issue of respect for our fellows living in Kosovo.”
“Kosovo is one of the important contributors to the Balkan region today and therefore to me it will be a moment to express all my respect and appreciation on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Albania toward these efforts, accomplishments and contributions that the people of Kosovo, Kosovo’s institutions, Republic of Kosovo itself have achieved and are giving sense to cooperation, which ultimately is the only way.
It is the only way for each country, each society and each nation to move on, ” he said.
