TIRANA, Jan. 10 – Governing Democratic party will hold no more consultations or talks with the main opposition Socialist Party to resolve their complain of alleged election manipulation two years ago.
That is what a Democratic party lawmaker, Enkelejd Alibeaj said these days, adding that time has come that all the parties are now working ahead of the local authorities elections of May 8.
“We could say that we are in an election campaign,” said Alibeaj, adding now they would talk only with the voters, the people.
Opposition Socialists have made all efforts in the last 16 months trying to show how the governing Democrats had manipulated the vote count in the parliamentary elections of June 2009. they boycotted the parliament, held street protests and a hunger strike but have since then given in to the international pressure and turned back to parliament.
The repeated efforts on creating a joint parliamentary investigative commission on those polls have failed so far.
Governing democrats often refer to the constitution and the electoral law asking the opposition to refer all their claims to them.
The socialists, on their side, complain that without a vote transparency there could be held no other voting. But they have not said they will boycott the upcoming polls.
