TIRANA, July 14 – Albania’s voting count has yet to be completed, likely to go until the end of the month.
But the governing Democratic Party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the Socialist Movement for Integration of Ilir Meta have already agreed to form a coalition.
Democrats have 70 seats and SMI four seats, enough to form the new cabinet.
Opposition Socialists of Tirana Mayor Edi Rama have won 66 seats but they claim more from the recount and insist Berisha has not won a second mandate. They also accuse Meta of making behind-the-scene bazaar with Berisha in rushing to create a coalition with him.
The local media has insisted to learn whether Berisha and Meta have started talks on the new cabinet.
There are many allegations that Meta is asking for that many government seats etc.
The media has reported in at least two cases of a meeting between Berisha and Meta. They also reported one last weekend in Pogradec.
But the SMI has come out to say there has been no meeting or no talk on the new cabinet, saying they are still waiting for the final results of the elections
No talks on forming the government yet
