VLORE, Aug. 3 – An official with the Property Registration Office and a business owner have been sentenced to four and three and half years in jail each for using forged documents to turn a public beach into private property in Albania’s largest southern port city.

Blerina Dhami, a former in-house lawyer with the office, cooperated with Vilson Lushaj to unlawfully register property worth $2 million in Lushaj’s name.

The two were found guilty and sentenced by a Vlore court for “falsification of documents.”

The court also confiscated the property, according to the Aug. 2 decision.

The property is located in one of Vlore’s top tourism spots, the Cold Water area, prosecutors said.
