TIRANA, Dec. 11 – The ease at which a newly established Albanian company claimed two major public contracts, worth a total of €30 million, by falsifying links to a US-based parent company has unveiled the fragility of Albania’s public procurement system and non-transparent use of taxpayer money, leading to allegations of large-scale corruption which the ruling Socialists have downplayed with lack of security checks on the winning company.
