TIRANA, May 12 – Albania has increased the threshold of tax-free online purchases to 20,000 lek (Euro 140, USD 193), up from 10,000 lek (Euro 70) according to a recent government decision.
This means that no taxes, including customs duties of 1 to 15 percent and the 20 percent VAT will be applied on online purchases of up to 20,000 lek.
“The fiscal ease comes after a rising trend of online purchases and the need to revise the threshold set in 1999 when this phenomenon was almost unknown,” says the Finance Ministry, adding that the decision will have a negative impact of around 30 million lek (Euro 210,000) to the state budget.
