TIRANA, Sep 2 – The opposition Socialist party believes that there should be no postponement of a moratorium on prohibiting Albanian speedboats from being used in the country’s waters.
The move was made by the government three years ago to stop the illegal human, drug and weapon trafficking using speedboats traveling on Albanian waters and on to neighboring Italy or Greece.
But that also prohibited the use of speedboats for tourists.
Albania has more than 400 kilometers of seaside that has turned into a big profit source for the residents there.
The interior Minister, Bujar Nishani, said last month that the moratorium should be extended since border police do not have the proper vehicles and other means to control these borders.
The moratorium is currently set to expire in October.
