TIRANA, March 25 – The main opposition Democratic Party has continued daily protests in front of the main offices of the parliament asking for the resignation of the speaker.
Ilir Meta has been accused by Tom Doshi, a former lawmaker of the governing Socialists, that he had set up a plot to kill him and another lawmaker of the Democrats.
Meta has strongly denied the claims. Doshi has now been arrested for making “false statements” to prosecutors.
But the Democrats continued to protest even after the prosecutors’ request to arrest the MP, saying that Meta should resign from the post in order for a full investigation to take place.
He said that the Democrats’ leadership is trying to feed such a tension, conflict and inspire hatred and violence instead of offering a solution, an alternative to the voters.
