Opposition continues protests with rally in Lushnja

LUSHNJA, Dec. 1 – Opposition Socialist Party continued its series of anti-government protests in the city of Lushnja, in south-central Albania, focusing on what it says are the lack of governing capacities and corruption in Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s cabinet.
Socialist leader Edi Rama said they would continue the wave of protests nationwide, accusing the government of corruption, bad governance and national poverty.
The Socialists started their protests after parliamentary elections last year, claiming vote count manipulation from the Democrats.
They want the investigation of the electoral documentation while the governing coalition says they should turn to the courts to dispute their claims.
The next stop is to be Pogradec, then the port city of Durres and also the other southern city of Fier.
Meanwhile the opposition continues its battle at the parliament where they have planned a no-confidence vote for the parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli at the last session this month.
They say that the parliament has been mismanaged by her and that has been one of the main cause of distortions in the country’s democracy.
The Socialist have also sent a delegation in Brussels to meet with European Union’s Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele, European Parliament lawmakers and other senior European leaders and officials.
