TIRANA, June 24 – The opposition Socialist Party on Tuesday said Prime Minister Sali Berisha should resign and his parliamentary immunity lifted so he may be prosecuted for his involvement in the Gerdec March 15 blast and also for alleged arms shipments to Afghanistan.
Erjon Brace of the Socialists said recent data from the US Congress shows the involvement of senior Defense Ministry officials in arms trafficking, damaging the United States and Afghanistan.
Brace said that arms’ trafficking has been Berisha’s policy and practice, which he has willingly done and also acknowledged.
He referred to Berisha’s words that he was aware of breaking the United Nations embargo against Serbia by trafficking oil some years ago.
The Socialists denounced such moves that run counter to Albania’s obligations and distanced themselves from such actions of corrupt statesmen. (Tirana Times Staff)
