OSCE minorities’ commissioner visits Albania

TIRANA, Sept. 9 – OSCE’s High Commissioner of National Minorities Astrid Thors made a visit to Tirana this week to meet with top officials in the country and discuss on the situation of the minorities in the country.
Thors met with President Bujar Nishani and Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati in her first visit to the country.
Thors was made aware of the country’s view point on the minorities and also of its stand on the development in the western Balkans.
Thors office serves as a mechanism to prevent ethnic conflicts in the region and more. The Albanian government officials told the commissioner the country behaves as a constructive factor in the region and of its contribution to the rights of ethnic Albanians living in the region in other countries.
