TIRANA, Feb. 24 – Albania’s power distribution corporation, OSHEE, has said that its offices extended their working hours in an effort to help more consumers pay their overdue bills, as large crowd gathered across the country to meet a deadline which means they will pay less penalty for their overdue bills.

The corporation reminded Albanians that those who paid the whole delayed amount immediately until the end of the month would be given an 80 percent discount of their interests’ rates, or they could still turn to the regular monthly payment of 2,500 leks per month besides the normal monthly consumtion.

All delayed-paying consumers are normally asked to renew their contracts.

The nationwide campaign that started last November has resulted in significant increases of the money collection for the corporation and tens of thousands of new contracts.

The government has set resolving the crisis of the energy system as a priority, saying that unless such drastic steps were taken it would immediately involve the whole country into a crisis.

Authorities have cut illegal power cuts and have arrested hundreds of people who have illegally connected their businesses and homes to the power grid.
