Parliament Speaker ends Gulf visit, gets support for Kosova independence

TIRANA, Jan. 20 – An official Albanian parliament delegation headed by Speaker Jozefina Topalli ended its four-country tour of the Persian Gulf which included Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The main goal of the visit was to establish better economic relations with Albania and also lobby for Kosova’s independence.
Topalli welcomed and encouraged the four countries’ interest in Albanian investment and trade and praised the initiatives of its democratic kingdom regarding its increasing women’s roles and participation in society.
On the issue of Kosova’s independence according to the Ahtisaari plan, it was reported that the Albanian delegation received the full support of the Persian Gulf countries, adding they would immediately recognize an independent Kosova.
The delegation also asked the visiting countries to exercise their influence on other countries of the Middle East during the upcoming Islamic Conference as well as in the UN Security Council.
