TIRANA, July 20 – Police reported last week they have busted a group of people allegedly serving as hired assassins. The gang was managed from a man already behind bars for life, authorities said.

The gang was headed by Admir Tafilaj, a convicted murderer who is serving a life sentence in a high-security prison, authorities said. Tafilaj has twice escaped from prison and failed a third time last year.

Police arrested eight suspects, issued arrest warrants for two others and are investigating a further three as part of Operation Epilogue. Two of the arrests were made earlier this year.

The local media reported the gang allegedly charged €20,000 to €50,000 per murder, and authorities suspect it was involved in at least four murders.

The gang members face charges of murder, drugs and arms trafficking and organized crime activities, charges that lead to life imprisonment if proved true in court.
