TIRANA, May 5 – Police are continuing to catch marijuana growth at an early stage and destroy the plants, authorities said this week, though the quantities are far smaller than last year’s operations in Lazarat and Malesi e Madhe.

This week, police destroyed more than 700 cannabis plants in southern Tepelena region and 380 in the Penkove e Vjeter village in southwestern Vlora district.

Over the past weekend police also found 400 more cannabis plants in Myselim village, in northwestern Shkodra district. While in the Mnele village, in the same district, it destroyed 260 cannabis plants.

Marijuana plants are still small this time of year and easier to hide, according to police, as a result police could not find the people who planted the marijuana in rural areas. There were no arrests.
