TIRANA, April 20 – Albanian police are keeping up their pressure against marijuana planting and trafficking, with thousands of plants destroyed, tons of cannabis seized and tens of people arrested or declared wanted on trafficking charges.

On Monday, police discovered 2,000 cannabis plants in the southwestern Vlore district, near Dhermi, in a forested area.

A day earlier they seized 13 kilograms of cannabis pressed and ready to be taken out of the country.

While over the weekend, again in Vlore and also in Kruje in the north they seized 4,000 and 1,040 cannabis plants respectively.

Police also arrested a commune official in Bura village, Kruje, for being aware of and not stopping the planting of the drugs in his territory.

In Vlore, they seized and destroyed 4,000 cannabis plants and also arrested two persons suspected of being the planters.

Fighting drug planting and traffic remains a top priority of the police work, Interior Ministry officials said in a statement.
