TIRANA, Oct. 15 – Albanian authorities are continuing to keep a close eye to the fight against drug trafficking, working with international partners to fight related crime.
Border police seized 161 kg of cannabis in the port city of Vlora last Sunday. The drugs were found at a truck to go on a ferry destined for the Italian city of Brindisi.
The truck driver was arrested, but said he had rented the truck to import bricks from Italy.
Albania is a major cannabis-producing country in Europe and a transit point for other drugs coming from other regions.
It got good credits after its large operation in southern Lazarat and northern Malesi e Madhe confiscating and eliminating hundreds of tons of cannabis earlier this year.
