FIER, Jan. 18 – Police said on Wednesday they had arrested a police head in the southern town of Patos, together with a local businessman, who are accused of stealing oil from a company.
The statement said the arrest came “after several months of investigation from the office of the prosecutor in the city of Fier”.
“The accused have consistently carried out thefts of crude oil property from Albpetrol,” it said.
They are suspected to be part of the scheme which is still being investigated.
The oil company Albpetrol is still a state-run one managing oil wells and other industry infrastructure in the area.
The government has made plans to privatize the company.
