Poll shows youngsters not interested in politics

TIRANA, March 28 – EUNACAL Institute and the Open Society Foundation Albania made public the results of a poll they had made last year on the use of the social media by youngsters and related to politics, central and local governing.
They explored ways of responses got from youngsters at the Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other blogs on political contests ahead of the May 8 local elections.
The questionnaire was made last October with some 2,267 persons.
The main conclusions from the poll were that most of the youngsters, 66.7 percent did not feel themselves part of compiling the public policies of the local authroities.
Women and girls feel themselves less involved than the men. About one-third, 34 percent of the youngsters said they would flee abroad if they found a job at any EU mmber country. Some 43 percent of them said they got the news on the political developments form the social media, as they spent a lot of time, more than two hours, a day with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and blogs.
The poll organizers urged the political parties and their candidates to use the social media to directly communicate with youngsgters.
