TIRANA, Dec 2 – Deputy Prime Minister Genc Pollo headed the Albanian delegation at the Central European Initiative (CEI) summit of heads of governments that took place in the Moldovan capital Chisinau.
In his speech, Pollo called on CEI member countries to recognize the new reality following the declaration of Kosova independence, a move that would positively influence the long-term stability of the new state and the entire Balkan region.
Pollo reiterated Albania’s stand on quick deployment of EULEX mission to the whole territory of Kosova in respect to the situation created after the 17th of February this year.
He also reviewed Albania’s progress towards European integration and NATO membership as a clear contribution of Albania’s increasing role towards consolidation of peace, security and economic development in the region.
The Central Europe Initiative, one of the earliest initiatives in Europe, remains an important forum for political, economic and cultural cooperation among its member states and a strong promoting instrument of the regional and European integration process.
Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Gurakuqi also was part of the delegation at the summit last week.
Gurakuqi said that the intensification of cooperation in the CEI context contributes to the materialization of the overall trend of European integration of its member states. He believed that CEI would continue to relay the emphasis on the European integration processes, which are of strategic significance for the region.
