Pre and post election fines pardoned

TIRANA, Feb. 18 – The Socialist Party-led government has drafted a law which pardons allegedly abusive pre and post electoral fines to the business community by the former government in 2013. The draft law foresees fine forgiveness from March to August 2013, a period which corresponds to the June 23 general elections. The incumbent Socialists claim many businesses were politically punished during this period by unfair penalties imposed by the former tax administration.
The draft law foresees the pardon of fines imposed by tax inspectors but not fines automatically imposed by the e-tax system for not paying tax obligations.
In a meeting with the tax administration, the Biznes Albania Association that government should review all fines imposed during the past two years.
