TIRANA, May 11 – President Bamir Topi considered May 8 local elections as progress in the standards for free and democratic elections.
Topi’s press office issued a statement in which the president highly evaluated the big turnout of the voters and also their maturity to give their trust and necessary integrity to the polls.
A day after the election Topi went to Turkey to take part at a meeting of the United Nations.
“May 8 was a normal voting day. Citizens said their word, made the best elections for them. Now it is up to the bipartite administration of the elections to express their clear political will to respect their ballot,” he said.
The election is finding difficulties in the counting process where both political groupings make efforts to delay them when they are not clear of their victory.
“Any obstacle, delay or alibi to prolong the end of the counting process is damaging to the integrity of the process and the constitutional spirit of expressing the people’s sovereignty,” said the president.
Topi called on the political parties to “fastly with transparency and accountability end the process of vote administration.”
