Producer prices up 2.2% in Q3

TIRANA, Dec. 5 – Producer prices continued their rising trend even in the third quarter of 2011, increasing by 2.2 percent year-on-year, but slightly dropped by 0.2 percent compared to the second quarter of this year, according to the latest INSTAT data. The Producer Price Index (PPI), measuring price changes from the makers of a product, rose by 6.5 percent y-o-y for the extractive industry and 2.6 percent for the processing industry. The PPI in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and water remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the PPI for domestic products dropped by 0.1 percent compared to the second quarter of 2011 with prices in the extractive and processing industries down by 0.3 and 0.2 percent respectively. The export price index also dropped by 0.5 percent compared to the previous second quarter with prices in the processing industry which accounts for the majority of Albanian exports down by 0.6 percent.
The PPI is a relative measure of average change in the price of a basket of representative goods and services sold by manufacturers and producers in the wholesale market.
