Producer prices up 3.3% in Q2

TIRANA, Sept. 12 – Producer prices continued their rising trend even in the second quarter of 2011, rising 0.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011 and 3.3 percent year-on-year. INSTAT data show the Producer Price Index, measuring price changes from the makers of a product, rose by 4.2 percent y-o-y for the extractive industry and 4.4 percent for the processing industry. PPI in the production and distribution of electricity and gas rose by 0.2 percent y-o-y. Meanwhile, the PPI for domestic products registered a 0.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011 with prices in the extractive and processing industries rising by 1.8 and 0.3 percent respectively. The export price index also rose by 1.6 percent compared to the previous quarter with prices in the processing industry which accounts for the majority of Albanian exports increasing by 1.7 percent.
