TIRANA, Sept. 18 – The Prosecutor General office sent a letter to the government to complain about a decision on rewarding a group of prosecutors of grave crime without their permission. The government decided to reward financially a group of prosecutors involved in the recent police operations concluding with the arrests of dangerous well-known heads of organized crime networks. The prosecutor general office acknowledged that the promotion of their work was a good indicator and something that should be applied but the government had to take permission as that institution is independent. The government cannot use Albanians’ taxes in an abusive way,” said a statement of the prosecutor general.
The government and the prosecutor general office are from the start of this executive more than a year ago into a conflict that culminated in July when the parliamentary investigative commission headed from the majority of the Democratic Party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha asked the president to fire Sollaku for mishandling and abusing with the post.(Tirana Times Staff)
