TIRANA, Jan. 28 – Protests by local residents and environmentalists over the construction of a small hydropower plant next to a protected Canyon and oil search plans at a national park have led to the suspension of works and a change of plans over environmental concerns in two southern Albanian areas where tourism is considered a major future opportunity for thinly populated villages that have faced mass migration over the past three decades.
