Prime minister spells out his vision for the future in Stockholm forum.
TIRANA, Nov. 15 – Fighting corruption and modernizing the way of life in Albania are the priorities of his work, Prime Minister Edi Rama has told the Creative Time forum in Stockholm, Sweden.
Rama said that changing the way the country has been governed during its two post-communist decades is fundamental to bring its population and economy closer to the western democracies.
Rama added that they had often found difficulties with the other countries, partners or institutions investing in Albania.
“As a leader of my country, the vision in my mind is for a more modern country, a country where people are more prosperous, a country where public services serve to the people and not to those who lead them,” he said.
He also reminded Western Europe that they should pay more attention to the Western Balkans, where the World War I started.
He spoke about the visit he made to Serbia last week, the first of its kind in 68 years.
“A peaceful and prosperous Balkans, a strong Albania as part of a powerful European Union. These are the major and brave paintbrushes I would like to put in action in our big tableau,” he said. “That is a vision that inspires me, inspires me to work day and night to turn that into a reality.”
Rama repeated what he has often said recently on the European integration.
“A Balkans in peace and prosperous is the good for the EU, as the EU is likewise the good of the Balkans, despite any super zealous bureaucrat,” he said. “Together we may create space for a multiplicity of cultures, faiths and identities that live alongside each other.
