TIRANA, Nov. 21 – Interior Minister Sokol Olldashi will be the contender for the post of Tirana mayor against Socialist leader Edi Rama. The Democratic Party branch of Tirana decided to chose unanimously Olldashi as the only candidate to run for the post. He will be supported in the daily work from the parliamentary group head Bamir Topi. Olldashi said however he would expect the big leadership of the party to approve his candidacy before making any statement. If approved, which is very much expected, Olldashi will have to abandon his parliamentary membership but not the ministerial post.
Edi Rama on the other side seems also as the only candidate from the opposition ranks to rerun for the post. He has continuously said that whether he would rerun or not depended on what the party would decide. Following the voting in Tirana for the local candidates for the elections it seemed that Rama was also the only candidate not only from the Socialists but also supported from the other four smaller allied political parties.
