TIRANA, Aug. 1 – The Muslim holy month of Ramadan has begun and that was observed in Albania too this Monday with the traditional feast to break the fast at the end of the day.
During Ramadan, most Muslims don’t eat after sunrise and celebrate a day of fasting with a sundown feast. Muslims around the world mark sundown during the holy month of Ramadan with extravagant dinners to break their daily fasts.
For most of the Muslim world, Ramadan this year falls at a time of rising food prices and political upheaval. Food prices typically spike during the Muslim religious month, and the elaborate dinners many in the Middle East put on to break the daily fast drive a deep hole in household budgets.
During the 30 days the Albanian Muslims will observe the fast during the day until late in the evening by eight o’clock.
At the end of the month, Aug. 20, some 1.5 billion Muslims will celebrate the Eid al-Fitr day considered as the Big Bayram. During the month there will be many dinners offered to the poor.
