VLORA, Sept. 5- The construction of a thermo power plant in Vlora has caused serious deforestation of the area. Some 247 pine trees have been cut in the area of the Soda Forest to make space for the building site. The thermo power plant is expected to be finished in March of 2009 and it will have a capacity of 2.4 million kilowatt hour/ per day. The permission to start activities was granted by the Territory Allocation Committees, both at the central and local levels, and work began two weeks ago. Considering environmental side effects, the contract obliges KESH to collaborate with the Forest Directory of the area in rehabilitating the forest. Three times the number of cut trees will be planted in the area to expand the forest.
