Regional cooperation on border security

TIRANA, March 2 – Interior Ministers of Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina signed in Ljubljana Tuesday a Ministerial Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Border Security in South East Europe and the Action Plan for 2011.
They also discussed on the achieved progress in the field of border security in South East Europe in 2010, and the proposals for the strengthening of regional operational cooperation which should be implemented through the year.
The topic of the conference was the further development of integrated border management, harmonization of national strategies for integrated border management in the regional countries and the regional training program for border staff.
The conference was also attended by the representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, EUROPOL, Frontex (Agency for the Coordination of intelligence driven operational cooperation at EU level to strengthen security at external borders), OSCE, and International Organization for Migration (IOM).
