TIRANA, June 21 – Last week, two roundtables were organized in Serbia to discuss the fight against corruption. Albanian Prosecutor General Ina Rama was present and held a speech.
Rama focused her speech on the task force groups created recently in Albania with the help of U.S. authorities.
Rama also stressed that strengthening regional cooperation would help in their joint fight against corruption, which often is trans-boundary.
The other conference was titled “Preventing Corruption Through Integrity Plans” and discussed the issue of corruption as one of the most important conditions western Balkan countries have to meet on their EU path.
Corruption is considered by most observers to be a significant problem in Albania, and other Balkan countries, putting it high up at the corruption perception index released from the Berlin-based watchdog Transparency International.
Serbia is ranked 83rd out of 180 in the poll with a CPI (corruption perception index) of 3.5. Albania is ranked 95th, Bosnia and Herzegovina 99th, Croatia 66th, Montenegro 69th, while Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania were tied at 71st.
