Shkodra police focused on fighting organized crime

SHKODRA, Oct. 8 -The head of police in the northern city of Shkodra, Ahmet Prenci, said that police have been concentrating on the fight against organized crime in the area. That includes a closer monitoring of the border so that there is total security in the days to come and during the local elections expected early next year. Premci also said there would be more efforts to clean up the police ranks from any person linked to crime. During the first nine months this year police in Shkodra district have had 125 criminal acts and they have discovered 99 of them. Police have arrested five wanted persons and have also blocked and sequestered assets in total costing some 10 million leks of persons involved in criminal organizations. They have been successful in fighting a group smuggling cigarettes from Montenegro. Police in Shkodra have also cut some 33,000 cannabis sativa plants.police have also imposed heavier fines of drivers going up to 23.6 million leks. Premci said there have been some 285,000 persons and 153,000 vehicles crossing border points. He said there was better cooperation with local government authorities and there was noticed an increased will from the population to collaborate with police in fighting crime.
