Six Kosovars arrested in Durres with false documents

DURRES, July 2 – Six Kosovars who were trying to cross into Italy using fake documents were stopped by the Albanian police at the port of Durres.

The six Kosovars, aged from 17 to 38 years old, were trying to embark on a ferry and go to Italy and from there into Switzerland.

Police also arrested another person, Ramadan Ibrahimi, considered the organizer of the traffic for which he was paid 1,000 Euro from each of the arrested Kosovars. Ibrahimi had legal documents at the time he was apprehended.

Durres port has been often used by immigrants-to-be from Kosova to cross into Italy with false documents.

Albanian police often report stopping either individuals or groups of people from Kosova using illegal documents.

Strengthening border control has been a top priority from police in the country’s efforts of integration into the European Union.

Albania has been often used as a transit point by illegal traffickers trying to take people, arms and drugs across the Adriatic Sea.
