Slovenia’s Triglav acquires majority stake in Albsig

TIRANA, Dec. 13 – Slovenia’s Zavarovalnica Triglav has acquired 51 percent of the Albanian insurer Albsig. The contract was signed last week in Tirana during a joint Albanian-Slovenian economic forum also attended by Slovenian PM Borut Pahor.
The Slovenian top insurer already owned a 9.9 percent stake in Albsig, an Albanian-owned insurer controlling only a small part of the market.
Speaking at the economic forum attended by 100 Slovenian business representatives, the Slovenian PM said Albania will be the main destination of Slovenian FDI, pledging investments by 20 other companies.
“Slovenia is searching new markets in Europe to invest in different sectors and Albania will be the focus of Slovenian investors,” Pahor was quoted as saying by the Albanian government’s press office.
A business consultative council has been set up promote Slovenian investments which have been pledged facilitation and Europe’s lowest tax burden by Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Slovenian-based retail chain Mercator has also recently launched operations in Albania.
Borut Pahor’s visit to Albania also marked the opening of the Slovenian embassy in Tirana.
