TIRANA, Aug. 31 – Deshira Subashi a member of the Central Election Commission who represents the opposition Socialist Party, called this week for a speeding up political efforts to make amendments to the electoral ahead of the local polls expected to be held next spring.
Subashi said faster efforts for a compromise are needed as not to threaten the holding of the local elections.
Postponing the electoral reform is seriously threatening the polls wich will likely be scheduled for May, she said.
“The more time is lost, the more difficult it will be for CEC to do it ‘s job. Political forces should begin to prepare for the future elections which will be the administrative ones,” she said.
The political impasse in the country could have a negative impact on how the elections are held.
The opposition Socialists claim a partial vote recount, or vote transparency in more general terms, claiming vote count manipulation in the last elections The Democrats oppose that saying that would violate the laws.
Despite the itnernational mediation no positive results, or a compromise has been achieved until now.
Both main poltiical groupings agree with the idea that the electoral code needs to be amended but do not say how and which should be amended.
Nothing of the required efforts for their amendments can be done if they do not first agree how to do it and then strat doing it at the parliament.
The opposition has boycotted all voting procedures saying June 2009 vote transparency comes first.
