TIRANA, Jan. 8 – The smaller parties in the coalition of the governing Socialist Party are pressing for more representation on governing bodies.
They say they were promised a certain number of appointments ahead of the parliamentary elections last year. The Social Democratic Party of Skender Gjinushi and the Social Democracy Party of Paskal Milo, two long-time allies of the Socialists, said that the Socialists have to respect the agreement they had reached before the polls in June last year.
The call comes at a time when the major governing posts at the minister and deputy minister level have already been assigned.
The Socialists of Prime Minister Edi Rama and their main ally, the Socialist Movement for Integration of Ilir Meta have largely distributed the main posts among themselves.
Milo and Gjinushi have complained that they are not getting any appointments as promised despite the number of votes they managed to collect in the polls.
“We want to have representation in the governance,” said Milo.
Gjinushi said that the leftist government should be recomposed this year to include the smaller parties as set in the pre-electoral deal.
“The government should undertake social reforms for the salaries, pensions, social insurance and health insurance” without the involvement of the smaller allies, according to Gjinushi.
Gjinushi added the Socialist Party has left coordination of the work with the allies in inept hands.
