TIRANA, July 5 – Opposition Socialists complained that the ruling Democrats were improperly trying to influence the country’s lengthy vote count by declaring victory before all ballots from the June 28th national election were tallied.
In another accusation a senior politician, Ermelinda Meksi, questioned why the Central Elections Commission was not counting nine boxes that would change the situation of the votes in the Fieri district.
It has become normal now that political parties complain on different procedural defects.
This time all the smaller political parties also complained of being illegally stripped of their votes.
Albania joined NATO in April and has been under international pressure to ensure the June 28 vote was free of the fraud that marred the first six elections held after the Balkan country’s communist regime fell in 1990
