TIRANA, Aug. 9 — More than half of Albania’s  dams and artificial lakes are a danger for residents, according to a report sued this week by National Water Council.

According to electronic media, the report by the state body says 65 percent of the dams in Albania require urgent maintenance work due to technical issues.

Albania has 626 dams in use and experts are recommending 70 be abandoned altogether and alternative uses found. It will lead to the further depletion of water resources in reservoirs, which are already at 60 percent of capacity of what they were at their peak, according to the report cited by electronic media.
