TIRANA, Sep. 8 – Tanja Fajon, the Slovenian lawmaker at the European Parliament who heads the team in charge of the visa liberalization for Albania and Bosnia, said that Tirana has much work to do to convince the European Union member states they have already fulfilled the benchmarks and they are also applying them in practice.
The European Parliament Foreign Commission passed a report on the two countries this Monday and the parliament is to vote on that in mid-September.
After that it will be up to the interior ministers of the member countries to give the final okay in November.
In an interview to the Albanian daily Gazeta Shqiptare Fajon said the Albanian politics is becoming a major concern for the European countries.
She urged the Albanian political groupings to turn back to dialogue and turn the parliament into a functional one.
Fajon said there are no countries against giving the visa=-free regime to Albania but some of them insist they should not rush in finalizing the process.
That is the reason why Albanians should take away their concern and give guarantees the technical benchmarks that are fulfilled may be normally applied in practice.
The political deadlock on last year’s general elections seem to remain a major concern and problem for the country in its integration process with the European bloc.
Still steps in getting visa-free regime
