The Albanian Parliament voted with 85 votes pro, 12 against and 4 abstentions the creation of the Special Commission body to investigate the report of Dick Marty, which will be headed by the MP Ulsi Manja. The majority will be represented in the Commission by the MPs Ulsi Manja,
Alket Hyseni, Klotilda Bushka, Adnor Shameti dhe Ermonela Felaj, while the opposition will be represented by Myslim Murrizi, Edmond Stojku, Enver Roshi and the independent MP Elena Xhina. The proposal of creating a parliamentary commission generated a lot of debate not only in Albania, but in Kosovo as well, especially considering that it was made 10 years after
the report was first made public. According to various experts, the reason that this process is being held now and by the Parliament, confirms that it should be seen as a calculated political action before the April general elections.
Non-coincidentally, in the last three weeks the political debate in Albania has been concentrated in the attacks that the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, has made against the leader of the opposition Lulzim Basha, for participating in the process of the investigation against Kosovo Liberation Army for crime against humanity. Basha at the other hand has repeatedly said that he has never worked against the KLA interests, or participated in investigations against KLA. Many experts suggest that it is ridiculous to believe that Basha was responsible for the dossiers that were investigating KLA, while working at his legal office in UNMIK. Experts at the Albanian Institute for International Studies said for Tirana Times that “what is
going on now is a tentative from the Socialist Party to direct the attention of the public from the current multiple crisis, such as the failure to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis, and the many and alarming cases of corruption,” adding that it should be considered as a naïve thinking to believe that this type of action could have a real impact on the next general election. Leaders of political parties coming from both the government and opposition in Kosovo, have also urged the Albanian Socialist majority to not use Kosovo affairs in their internal political conflicts.
