TIRANA, June 10 – For the first time, an A310-300 Airbus Freighter, dedicated to cargo transportation and operated by Turkish Airlines, has landed at Tirana International Airport. From now on, this Airbus will be dedicated to the shipping of cargo between Turkey, Italy and Albania. The new service started on 7 June 2009 and has a once weekly frequency. The full route is Istanbul-Tirana-Milan-Istanbul, and the aircraft lands in Tirana every Sunday at 11:45 hrs.
All commodities can be shipped on the new route via standard cargo, including both private and commercial shipments. The A310-300’s maximum cargo capacity is 36,000 kg and 200 mӮ
Turkish Cargo offers customers a full cargo service on the new route: Cargo is containerized and palletized in both the main and lower decks. Expedited shipping is available for most freight, and includes options such as refrigeration or chilled storage during transport. Customers also have access to personalized options for the shipping of goods needing special care, of value, live animals and hazardous materials. Any combination of these options can be used to deliver goods on to the above mentioned international flight destinations.
“Expanding the fleet at TIA with the Airbus 310-300 will allow us to further meet Albania’s demand for air cargo transportation and help develop the local business. The A310-300 Freighter is the ideal complement to our existing aircraft portfolio and builds on our success concerning air freight. The Airbus’s payload range characteristics will open up new possibilities for our customers paired with very attractive operating costs,” said TIA Chief Operation Officer Rolf Castro-Vasquez.
TIA, in collaboration with the airlines operating at the Airport, plays a significant role in satisfying the transport needs of its customers. This new freight-only service will certainly be an incentive to local business developments and marks an important achievement in the airport’s history. TIA is certain this will stimulate further developments.
